Collaboration and performance with the poet Frances Presley with part of the project available in book form (Automatic Cross Stitch, published by The Other Press, 2000).
Inspired by women who work in the sewing industry and using techniques and symbols drawn from different cultures the series consists of images and installation pieces.
Initially, the project was conceived as a performance for the Feminist Aesthetics conference organised by Penny Florence with Dee Reynolds in 1995. The reading of the texts took place alongside projected images using slide projectors.
The performance was repeated at King’s Fund (1996) and Filef Centre (1996) where it was accompanied by an exhibition of additional work.
